Is IVF possible at the age of 50 years?

As the lifestyle of the modern generation has changed drastically, the age for getting pregnant has shifted entirely. With most ladies going to the office instead of being homemakers, they delay having a baby and focus more on their careers and settlement.

Thus, with age, the chance to get pregnant reduces, leading to infertility issues in every 2 of 5 couples. It is the time when you need to connect with Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) for various infertility issues.

What is Art Reproductive Technology?

Art Reproductive Technology is the advanced technology used to conceive a baby artificially through IVF, IUI, Surrogacy, or artificial insemination.

Every IVF center in Patna is headed by a central health ministry that issues guidelines that every Fertility center needs to abide by. The organization that guides every other IVF center is the National Guidelines for Accreditation to prohibits the misuse of ART just to earn money.

Maximum Age for IVF

As per the ART regulation bill of 2020 chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi advises every ART lab to go for IVF for a lady above marital age and below 50 years. According to an analysis directed by Inito, a Bengaluru-based medical technology company, around 27.5 million couples face infertility, increasing the misuse of ART technology.

Though Diwya Vatsalya Mamta Fertility Centre holds a world record for assisting a woman in helping a baby through IVF at the age of 65 years, we tend to work as per the Government norms and aim to provide IVF treatment to a lady with 50 years of age.

Diminished Ovarian Reserve

Ladies are born with all the eggs they will use in their lifetime, resulting in approximately 450 ovulations per life. Hundreds of eggs compete to ovulate per month, but only one is thriving while remaining reabsorbed into the body. This cycle continues until menopause.

DOR is presently best measured at our clinic by considering your chronological age, antral follicle count (AFC) by pelvic ultrasound, and a blood test for the anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) blood test. Although other determinants provide the secondary factor of pregnancy rates, the primary remains the egg quality.

The quality of eggs is determined as per your age – the more age you have, the steeper decline in fertility is witnessed by a lady, beginning around age 30.

Egg Donation and IVF

Under two circumstances, you can ask for egg donation:

  • If the egg quality of the female partner is below required.
  • Secondly, those who are female after menopause wants to opt for IVF.

In both these instances, egg donation is the only option left for a successful IVF. You will need an egg donor who is ready to donate her eggs to help you become parents. In such a situation, the egg of the donor is fertilized with the effective sperm of the male partner. After fertilization, the embryo is transferred to the female partner’s uterus with the help of the catheter.

Following this procedure will help the female witness the experience of carrying a child in the womb for nine months.
